The career of Dolorès Puthod between painting and stage art

Dolorès Puthod's work, which stands out for its singular qualities, has a distinctive place among the vast and contrasting artistic currents of recent decades. Her passionate adherence to the Commedia dell'Arte and its masks places her in a very special position, poised between pictorial and scenic art, but always linked to theatrical spectacle.

Dolorès Puthod was in fact very close to the performances of our major theatres, going so far as to conduct a sort of competition between the agile representation of the actors and acrobats and her ability to capture their gestures instantly. To fully appreciate the great quality of her works and her truly astonishing hold, we must admire the great works she painted for La Scala in Milan.

Collaborations and works around the world

Born in Milan in 1934, she is one of the leading exponents of figurative painting of the last century. She graduated from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts and worked as a set designer at La Scala Theatre in Milan. During her ten-year career, she has also worked with Picasso, De Chirico and Savino. Her works can be admired in major public and private collections and in the most prestigious international museums.

In 2014, a documentary film dedicated to her life and prolific artistic career was made, featuring more than 3000 paintings.
