Anne Archer - Artists for Human Rights - FB

On the occasion of its 6th edition, the Florence Biennale was recognised for its support of the United Nations "Dialogue of Civilisations" programme, which it joined officially in 2001. The award of the international association Artists for Human Rights (AFHR) was presented by its founder Anne Archer, who has long been actively involved in the defence of human rights.

Artists for Human Rights and the battle for human rights

AFHR, the non-profit organisation she founded with the aim of promoting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights worldwide and raising awareness of humanitarian issues, is made up of artists and prominent personalities united by the will and responsibility to support the battle for human rights.

No limits of race, life experience, discipline, nationality: a unique chorus of voices rising up in the name of tolerance. It is through their personal stories, music, dance, painting and every other possible form of art that all those involved convey their message, spread it, make it resonate with the tenacious hope of improving the course of civilisation.

"Artists have the ability to touch society so deeply that they bring about positive change as a direct result. They have always been the best ambassadors of human rights, aware of the vital importance of protecting individual expression". Anne Archer's words underline this thought along the lines of what Kofi Annan has already expressed: "I believe that dialogue is an opportunity for people from different cultures and traditions to get to know each other better, whether they live at opposite ends of the world or on the same street".
