Tim Burton guest at the XV Florence Biennale 2025
21 October—An entire day dedicated to Tim Burton with the Award Ceremony attended by the artist himself
After a record-breaking first week in terms of number of vistors and participation, the 15th edition of the Florence Biennale — running at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence until 26 October — is getting into full swing and preparing to host an event of international importance: tomorrow, Tuesday 21 October, will be a day entirely dedicated to Tim Burton, one of the most iconic and innovative directors and artists of our time.
The author of cinematic masterpieces will receive the prestigious Lorenzo il Magnifico Lifetime Achievement Award, conferred in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the visual arts. A solemn and symbolic moment, designde to honour an artist who has been able to uniquely blend cinema, illustration, animation and visual art, building a recognisable and universal imagery capable of influencing generations of creatives.
Tim Burton welcomed the news of the award as follows: "I am very honoured to be the new recipient of the "Lorenzo il Magnifico" Lifetime Achievement Award, joining the list of extraordinary artists who have been honoured in the past. This award also gives me the opportunity to create an exhibition in Florence for the Biennale and I look forward to exploring this year's theme of dualism through my art and reflecting on those opposites that do not exist one without the other: light and darkness, good and evil, order and chaos."
At the same time, throughout the duration of the event, the public will have the opportunity to visit the unprecedented solo exhibition "Tim Burton: Light and Darkness", curated by the artist himself together with the Florence Biennale. The exhibition is part of this edition's theme, 'The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness — Concepts of Dualism and Unity in Contemporary Art and Design', exploring with consistency and originality the dualism between light and shadow, visible and invisible, reality and imagination, key concepts in Burton's aesthetics.
