Inclusiveness and Sustainability in Museums: the conference on 20 October

“La museologia del presente. Musei inclusivi e sostenibili si diventa”

8 October 2023

Less than a week to go before the opening of the XIV Florence Biennale. International Exhibition of Contemporary Art and Design and, as is usual, during the days of the artistic kermesse, the Fortezza da Basso in Florence will host a conference on topical issues.

Curated by Domenico Piraina (Director of the Palazzo Reale in Milan) and Maurizio Vanni (museologist, University of Pisa and Superintendence of Lucca and Massa Carrara, as well as moderator), this time the meeting will be held on Friday 20 October, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the theatre area of the Spadolini Pavilion (at the Fortezza da Basso) and will focus on the theme “La museologia del presente. Musei inclusivi e sostenibili si diventa”.

A topic of great discussion

The Museology of the Present pushes to rethink the sustainability, valorisation and management of museums: museum functions increase by putting the visitor at the centre of every cultural offer. Will museum structures be able to adapt to the new challenges proposed by ICOM in the new definition of a museum? Will they be able to devise experiential inclusion projects for different audience segments, to fulfil the requirements of social responsibility and holistic sustainability and to significantly reduce their environmental impact? These will be some of the issues that will be addressed by professionals with interdisciplinary expertise: museum presidents and directors, museologists, specialists in cultural marketing and economic management, psychiatrists, bio-architects, specialists in technological innovation and holistic sustainability.
