Announced the new Design pavilion on the occasion of the XIIth Florence Biennale

Florence Biennale, the major contemporary art exhibition in Florence, is glad to announce the opening of the new Design pavilion, on the occasion of the XIIth edition which will be held from 18 to 27 October 2019 at the Fortezza da Basso.

During the past editions, the Florence Biennale has already awarded and exhibited some of the most important designers and architects, such as Ferrari & Pininfarina (“Lorenzo il Magnifico” Design Award 2003), Harley-Davidson (“Lorenzo il Magnifico” Design Award 2005), Agatha Ruiz De La Prada (“Lorenzo il Magnifico” Lifetime Achievement Award 2011), and Arata Isozaki (“Lorenzo il Magnifico” Lifetime Achievement Award 2017).

The Design Pavilion of the XIIth Florence Biennale will be curated by a team composed of design experts and will be located at the first floor of the exhibition area (Spadolini Pavilion), while ground floor will still be dedicated to contemporary art, giving visitors the opportunity to see both exhibitions with the same ticket.

The official theme, “Ars et Ingenium”, is connected to the Celebrations for the 500° anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci’s death.

Six categories have been identified; each one of them represents a particular section of the exhibition:

  • Architecture & Town Design
  • Industrial & Product Design
  • Interior Design
  • Fashion & Jewellery Design
  • Communication & Graphic Design
  • Technology & Game Design

An International Jury, composed by outstanding personalities in the field of design, will bestow the “Leonardo da Vinci” Design Award to the best exhibitors for each category.

The international partners, as well as Guests of Honour and Lifetime Achievement Awards, will be announced in the next weeks.

All participating designer, partners, awardees, and guests will be published in the official catalogue of Florence Biennale – Design.
