1999 EDITION

In its second edition, the Florence Biennale has confirmed itself as a meeting point worldwide of artists who became the protagonists of a moment of exchange and mutual understanding, strong in their peculiar characteristics.

In the period before the spread of the Internet, nobody would have thought it possible to bring together so many contemporary artists from so many countries.

During this edition of the exhibit terms like dialogue, encounter, tolerance, brotherhood, interculturality and interdisciplinarity became part of the Florence Biennale’s DNA, in the hope that these elements would be adopted universally.

This edition of the event was also an opportunity to pay homage to the Poet and Art Critic Mario Luzi, high-profile figure in the Italian and international cultural landscape. He was honoured with the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to Culture. For the occasion, the expert maestro presented his most recent book Luzi the Art Critic.
