Art critic, art history professor, and curator, Mr. Baechler was born in Switzerland in 1949. He studied at Brechbühl School and Calvin College and was awarded a Baccalaureate degree in Ancient and Modern Languages. Later he graduated from Geneva University, obtaining a BA in Art History and Political Sciences. He served as assistant to Professor Pierre Bouffard, former Director of the Art and History Museum in Geneva and later became his associate in his Art and Expertise Bureau. For 25 years, Mr. Baechler served as UNICEF Commissioner as a member of its International Jury of the Greeting Cards Operations, to select the artists illustrating the greeting cards collection. He was invited to join the International Biennale of São Paulo committee as an expert and research director. He was a member of the AICA (International Association of Art Critics). Mr. Baechler has written several art books, and newspaper articles, and contributed to numerous art and literature magazines and artists’ presentations. He was invited by the Secretaria da Cultura do Estado de São Paulo to be its researcher, exhibitions’ organizer, and cultural promoter. Mr. Baechler still runs his own Bureau d’Art, specializing in regional iconography and cultural events organization.

He has been a member of the International Jury of the Florence Biennale since 2007.
