Awards to Calatrava and LaChapelle. The first time for Maori artists
9 October 2023
It looks very rich the programme of the XIV Florence Biennale. International Exhibition of Contemporary Art and Design, which will be held at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence from 14 to 22 October.
The theme of the event - "I Am You. Individual and Collective Identities in Contemporary Art and Design" - focuses on the concepts of individual and collective identities, in their multiple philosophical, psychological, sociological, and cultural meanings; a theme that proved to be very stimulating, since this edition of the Florence Biennale will be attended by more than 600 artists and designers from 84 countries on all five continents.
As already announced, the American photographer David LaChapelle and the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava will be the recipients of the 'Lorenzo il Magnifico Award' and the 'Leonardo da Vinci Award' respectively, both for Lifetime Achievement.
But during the eight days of the exhibition, numerous events will take place, such as the presentation of the Awards from the President, Guests of Honour and Special Projects, performances and surprises in the Cavaniglia Pavilion, the museology conference on 20 October, the many talks planned, and the award ceremony on the final day.
