Women in Dance (WID) is a global initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of women-identifying and gender-diverse artists through performance, scholarship, leadership, and film. Since its founding, WID hascreated platforms that highlight innovation, equity, and cultural exchange in dance, offering artists opportunities to connect with audiences and each other across borders.
The Women in Dance International Film Festival, launched in 2021, extends this mission into the cinematic realm. Each year, the festival curates an inspiring selection of short dance films by women and genderdiverse choreographers and filmmakers, exploring themes of identity, resilience, social justice, and creative innovation. These works demonstrate the power of movement as a form of storytelling, and the festival has received over 600 submissions from more than 35 countries, establishing itself as a vital global showcase of choreographic and cinematic excellence.
A selection from the Festival is presented on the occasion of the XV Florence Biennale 2025, offering audiences an opportunity to experience the dynamism and vision of contemporary dance on screen.
