Welcome Back Marina Abramović!
Marina Abramović Week has officially begun in Florence! On the occasion of the first Italian retrospective at Palazzo Strozzi, curated by director Arturo Galansino, Marina Abramović is back in town; and Florence Biennale is happy to welcome her (again) during the preview of the exhibition on Thursday 20 September.
The Cleaner
From 21 September 2018 to 20 January 2019, Palazzo Strozzi is hosting a major exhibition dedicated to Marina Abramović, one of the most famous and controversial characters in contemporary art, whose works have revolutionised the idea of performance by challenging her body, its limits and its potential for expression.
The event stands as an extraordinary retrospective that will bring together over 100 works offering an overview of the most famous works of her career, from the 1970s to the 2000s, through videos, photographs, paintings, objects, installations and the live re-enactment of her famous performances by a group of performers specifically trained and selected for the exhibition.
Marina Abramović & Florence Biennale
Marina Abramović and the Florence Biennale are old acquaintances. It was 2009 when Marina first came to Florence during the 7th Florence Biennale, during which she received the prestigious ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ Lifetime Achievement Award.
At the Biennale, the artist presented an exhibition dedicated to her videos and read her Manifesto for the first time, sparking the enthusiasm of those present and generating enormous interest in the national and international media, including CNN, which dedicated a report to the entire event.
