UNITYBEAK—LABA in collaboration with Facundo Yebne
Coordination and supervision of the workshop: Prof. Angelo Minisci, coordinator and design professor at LABA, Florence
LABA — the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence — is a fine arts academy recognized by Italy’s Ministry of University and Research, founded in 2001. It blends tradition with advanced media to prepare creative professionals. Programs follow the 3+2 model (bachelor plus specialization) and include Directing & Videomaking, Photography, Graphic Design & Multimedia, Painting, Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Cinema and Audiovisual Arts. With small cohorts (up to 20 students) and multimedia labs, learning is practical and personal. LABA is international: it adopts ECTS, takes part in Erasmus+, and runs exchanges across Europe, China and the United States. The academy collaborates with Foundations, Museums, and companies such as Peuterey, Alpitour, Dainese, Fedrigoni, Alessi, De’Longhi, and Artemide, giving students real-world briefs. Continuous investment in research and curriculum keeps courses aligned with creative markets and supports initiatives that showcase art worldwide.
At the XV Florence Biennale, students from LABA’s Design Department were invited to take part in the creation of “UnityBeak” – Florence Edition, an installation by artist Facundo Yebne (FLY). “UnityBeak” features two duck sculptures covered with thousands of small rubber ducklings — a collective artwork symbolizing peace, love, and unity. The students’ contribution was essential to the realization of the piece, making them co-authors of a major international exhibition. The workshop not only emphasized the development of a collaborative project but also provided valuable opportunities for dialogue and interaction with the artist.
