Out of Limits – Stefano Zellini
‘Being an artist is not just knowing how to paint or sculpt. It is much more...being an artist is finding a way to communicate through any form of expression.’ Stefano Zellini
Stefano Zellini is one of the 462 international artists exhibiting at the 11th Florence Biennale, the contemporary art biennial in Florence.
The work in the exhibition, an oil on canvas entitled ‘Without Limits’, is a testimony of an experience lived by the artist in the first person: it reports what he experienced when he went into a coma, i.e. in the fourth dimension. During that moment of unconsciousness he felt the presence of ‘The Creator’, perceiving him as the essence of light and joy.
What the artist tried to render in his work is the harmony that is created within the fourth dimension.
After awakening from his coma, he became increasingly fond of colour, painting and drawing. This experience led him to exhibit his work at the Florence Biennale Contemporary Art exhibition in October 2017.
His work depicts a flower standing at the centre of the universe, a symbol of light, hope and freedom. At the bottom is a road representing the path of life. On the left of the painting one can glimpse buds symbolising the continuous cycle of life. These also depict the birth of the flower (potency) resulting in the fully matured flower (act).
The colours used themselves have a profound meaning: yellow-gold symbolises light and majesty, purple royalty and the Holy Spirit, and finally the shades of blue and light blue are meant to inspire confidence, calm and security.
This work shows us an eternal world, an infinite universe with all its wonders.
For Zellini, the first artist is God himself, the Creator, who has put his art into each one of us. In his opinion, a key ingredient to becoming an artist is to let one's heart and soul speak.
Curiosity:
Stefano Zellini was born in Florence in 1958. He cultivated a passion for art from a young age, attending courses in ancient painting techniques at the Art Institute of Porta Romana and Via San Gallo in Florence.
Her painting production is characterised by a wide versatility that alternates between figurative and abstract art, with a focus on traditional aesthetics, while at the same time experimenting with new paths.
