QART3 – Street Festival of Contemporary Art
A ‘showcase’ for young and emerging artists for the Notte Bianca of Florence 3rd District
QART3, the street festival of contemporary art in the 3rd District of Florence, organised by Florence Biennale and scheduled from 1 to 5 July 2016, is about to begin.
Established last year with the aim of providing a stage for young and emerging artists, this year QART3 will once again fill the streets of the district with a programme full of initiatives. The shopkeepers of the area will give the opportunity to display, inside the windows of their shops, the works of art that the artists will provide for the realisation of the event.
There are two categories: Young Artists (from 18 to 35 years old) and Senior Artists (over 35 years old) are invited to submit, by 10 June 2016, their works (painting, sculpture and installation, photography) inspired by this year's theme Resilience - Florence 1966: the artists will have the opportunity to confront the theme of resistance to the forces of nature, of man's ability to react by regenerating himself and his own system, in memory of the 1966 Florence flood.
The festival envisages the awarding of prizes to the participating artists during the Notte Bianca in the 3rd District, scheduled on Tuesday 5 July at 8.30 p.m. in Piazza Gino Bartali.
The winning works in the Young Artist category and the Senior Artist category will be exhibited at the 11th edition of the Florence Biennale in 2017.
The works of the first three winners in each category will be exhibited on 24 September 2016 at the Scuola Elementare ‘Giovanni Villani’ (Viale Donato Giannotti, 51 - Florence) on the occasion of the exhibition ‘Il Quartiere allo specchio’ realised within the framework of the project in memory of the 1966 flood.
All the artists will receive a diploma of participation.
Promoted by the Florence Biennale in collaboration with the 3rd District of Florence (Gavinana Galluzzo) and the shopkeepers of Piazza Gualfredotto, Via Datini, Via Giampaolo Orsini, Via F. D. Antiochia and the UniCoop Firenze shopping centre in Piazza G. Bartali, the QART3 project is characterised by its strong integration with the urban fabric. This is in order to give new impetus to a culture of a social nature that raises the awareness of citizens, through the active involvement of the Florentine neighbourhoods, in the realisation of poly-media artistic activities.
