Nicole Albagli Iruretagoyena—Winner of the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Jewellery Award from the President at the Cluster Contemporary Jewellery (London)
Chilean designer Nicole Albagli Iruretagoyena, winner of the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Jewellery Award from the President at Cluster Contemporary Jewellery (13-18 December 2024, London), will be one of the Guests of Honour at the 15th edition of the Florence Biennale. The award, born from the collaboration between the Florence Biennale and Cluster Contemporary Jewellery (London), includes the out-of-competition participation of the winner, chosen by the organizers of the Florence Biennale, and the display of her works, with a particular focus on the theme of the exhibition, “The Sublime Essence of Light and Darkness. Concepts of Dualism and Unity in Contemporary Art and Design”.

Nicole Albagli Iruretagoyena, an industrial designer from Chile, began her career in interior design, founding her own brand and store to create and produce contemporary Chilean furniture. For over 20 years, she thrived in the industrial design sector, exploring new technologies and materials. Yet, a persistent desire to bridge her design practice with her profound appreciation for nature guided her toward a new artistic language. Jewellery design, once a personal pastime, gradually became a medium of artistic expression. Although she was never drawn to traditional metals or luxury stones, she was captivated by the natural beauty of Patagonian sea stones, which she personally collected over the years while walking along the shores of Chiloé Island in South Patagonia.
Nicole states: “The concept of the fusion of past and future is an aesthetic proposal worked in art, architecture and design. It is the formal result of the coherent union of elements of different order and time. In the aesthetics of my contemporary jewelry ornaments, this fusion is intentional and a permanent search, in all the pieces I design and manufacture. It is a line of work in a continuous process of searching, fusing and exacerbating the assembly of the mechanics of my imagination, with thousands of years of history written in stone”.
