To Giampaolo Talani

The true death of an artist is where the search ends, where certainties, careerism or illusions submerge doubts - Giampaolo Talani

Farewell to Giampaolo Talani, painter and sculptor and the winner of the ‘Lorenzo il Magnifico’ Lifetime Achievement Award 2015 for the visual arts. A retrospective solo exhibition was held on the occasion of the 10th Florence Biennale 2015. He deserves the credit for having been able to renew the cultural heritage of the Florentine Renaissance by experimenting with the ancient technique of fresco painting in a contemporary way and manifesting his vocation for an ideal dialogue with the collectivity of the polis.

The artist has exhibited all over the world, from New York to Washington, via Paris and Berlin, with his statues and paintings with his unmistakable stroke. In 2011, he participated in the 54th Venice Biennale and recently, for the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, Talani was commissioned to create a bronze bust of Garibaldi, which was placed in two copies in the Quirinale staircase and in Palazzo Madama in Rome. In Florence, Talani is the author of Partenze, a fresco at the Santa Maria Novella station, and the female statue Fiorenza, which he donated for the San Jacopino district.
