The “Animeyed” Series: Identity, Metamorphosis and Gaze

The exhibition presents ten works from the celebrated Animeyed series by Hungarian photographer Flóra Borsi, Guest of Honour at the XIII Florence Biennale, themed Eternal Feminine | Eternal Change. In Animeyed, the human face merges with an animal gaze, creating self-portraits suspended between metamorphosis, identity, and imagination. Through a refined visual language, Borsi explores the relationship between inner and outer worlds, between nature and representation, and between reality and the symbolic.

Among the works on display are Swan, Black Swan, Chameleon and Flamingo, iconic images that formed the coordinated visual identity of Florence Biennale 2021 and now return in dialogue with a new exhibitions setting.

Art Suite: Contemporary Art in Hospitality Spaces

Alongside the public exhibition, a copy of one of the works will be on view exclusively inside a Suite reserved for hotel guests. This interplay between public display and private spaces gives the project its name: Art Suite, created to foster a dialogue between art, hospitality and an intimate way of seeing.

Flóra Borsi: One of Contemporary Photography’s Most Recognised Voices

Flóra Borsi is an artist working with photography, self-portraiture and digital image construction. Her work explores identity, perception, emotional vulnerability and the relationship between human beings and nature, combining photography, performance and digital image-making.

Her work has been exhibited across Europe and the United States, including at the Louvre in Paris, Lanoue Gallery in Boston and Anna Laudel in Düsseldorf, and is held in museum and private collections. Named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, she was chosen as Hasselblad’s first-ever Heroine of the Year and is the winner of the “Lorenzo il Magnifico” President’s Award at Florence Biennale. She has collaborated with Adobe as well, creating the global image for Adobe Photoshop and the visual identity of Adobe Creative Cloud.

A Collaboration Celebrates Florence as a City of Contemporary Art

With Art Suite, Florence Biennale expands its ongoing collaboration with cultural and business partners across the region, creating further opportunities for contemporary art to meet international audiences within the symbolic settings of Florentine hospitality. The project is part of the journey towards the Florence Biennale’s 30th anniversary, which will be celebrated with the XVI edition in 2027.

Preview and Projects Partners

The preview on 9 September will include a welcome reception featuring a selection of delights from the Anglo American Hotel’s kitchen alongside artisanal treats by Leonardo Biscotti, a historic Florentine confectionery. Pineider Firenze, on the other hand, a maison of excellence in fine paper, Florentine leather goods, and luxury writing instruments with over two hundred years of history.

For each exhibition, the hotel will add a dedicated signature cocktail to its menu, available throughout the month, strengthening further the dialogue between art, hospitality, and mixology.
