THE FLORENCE PROJECT
Puebla, Mexico
November/December 2018
The Florence Project is the brainchild of Karen J. Sander, a Colombian / American artist who participated in the XI Florence Biennale. Karen is the “mind” behind the conformation of the group of 25 artists from Latin America and Hispanic America that met in October of 2017 during the XI Florence Biennale. We asked her to describe the project they are working on and this is what she told us:
During those days of the Biennale, a very strong bond of friendship was born that united the group until today.Throughout these months we have supported each other in our individual careers, formulating the idea of collective exhibitions in different countries around the world. Our next project is in Puebla, Mexico and we have planned already for next year in Spain. In the months following the biennale exhibition Karen Sander, Norma Cortes Caballero, Mexican participant of the XI Florence Biennial, and the Mexican Biennial judge, Mati Roca, helped us contact the owner of the Mizrahi Cultural Center, Edgar Mizrahi, to present the idea of an exhibition with this group. Mizrahi was immediately enthusiastic about creating a group exhibition in the city of Puebla, Mexico, with a group of artists from the Florence Biennale! Then, the project was launched and was baptized as “The Florence Project”, consisting only of participants in the Florence Biennale. The Florence Project, is in fact composed of 16 artists from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Spain, and is characterized by the variety of forms of art expression developed by its members that, without doubt, confer cultural wealth to this particular group, united by art and friendship, instinctive of the XI Florence Biennale.

- Centro Cultural Libanes, Vernissage November 10th exhibition from November 12th through the18th, 2018
