International “Lorenzo il Magnifico” Award for Design 2005

The Florence Biennale’s highest honour, the awarding of the prestigious international Award “Lorenzo il Magnifico” for Design, officially sanctioned the manifold genius and influential efforts lavished on motorcycling by the men of Harley-Davidson in their continuous and unmatched development of technology for one of the most modern expressions of life.

The Biennale wanted to bring the public into direct contact with this daily and tireless efficiency, which, like many other areas of research, can reach highpoints of refined professionalism while still maintaining a certain indispensible eclecticism.

Harley-Davidson easily reached and surpassed its 100th birthday in 2003, and

throughout its existence, every time it has launched its latest model it has always created unexpected and clear designs that leave everything else behind them.

Willie G, as he is informally known, has been the head of Harley-Davidson’s Styling Department for 40 years, and he has contributed to the development of the appearance, sound, life-style, and emotion that are part of the classic pedigree of the most famous American two-wheeler in the world. Examples of this are such iconic models as the Electra Glide, the Fat Boy, and the recent V-Rod, which has won numerous design awards. Harley-Davidson’s designs have managed to concentrate style and force into movement on the road.
