A homage to the Restoration Laboratories of the Vatican Museums
The fourth edition of the International Biennale of Contemporary Art of Florence gives homage to the Vatican Restoration Laboratory. The biggest recognition of The Biennale, the prize "Lorenzo il Magnifico" consecrates the precious effort known in the art field, to the Laboratory, to the incomparable and continuous rescue of the Human Patrimony. Participation terms of the exhibition which will take place in the historical Fortezza da Basso, from 6 to 14 December 2003 , were decided by the General Director of Papal Monuments, Museums and Galleries, Francesco Buranelli, also head of the Restoration Laboratory, together with the President of the Biennale, Prof. Pasquale Celona. In the reserved area, the Vatican Restoration Laboratory, will exhibit the main restoration interventions done in the pluriennial activities that they have done to the huge artistic patrimony relied on them. From the antic relics of Mediterranean civilizations: Egyptians, Greek and Etruscan up to the Greek-Roman statues, up to the antic silver and ivory pieces, from the glazes up to the medieval reliquaries, up to the clay sketches by Bernini. Presenting also the restoration of the famous tapestries by Raffaello, the complex restoration of frescoes from the four hundreds and those from the Sixteen Chapel by Michelangelo.
