The Fortezza da Basso
A beautiful Renaissance fortress, that evokes the splendid time period when the Medici family were governors, is the ideal place to host this prestigious event.
Built in 1534 by Antonio da Sangallo, it is now the most important exhibition centre in the city of Florence, just a few steps away from the city centre.
The Biennale is held in the Spadolini Hall, built in 1970 by the architect of the same name, covering a total surface area of 11,000m² and with areas dedicated to collateral events, performances and conferences.
The Fortress has two large entrances (entrance to the Biennial is through Porta Faenza), in the new Piazza Bambini di Beslan, and a large car park in Piazza Caduti nei Lager. Furthermore, it is very easily reacheable by walk from the city centre and from the S.M. Novella station and by car from the main highways exits.
